- Susan Rakes has been involved professionally with the arts and arts education for over 20 years. At the age of 19 she developed a children’s theater program that she ran while attending college at the University of South Florida

Nancy Turrell

- Executive director for the Arts Council of Martin County since April 1, 1999. Previously United Way of Martin County and New Horizons of the Treasure Coast
- While at Martin County she has created the MartinArts magazine, secured support for the first women’s donor circle in Martin County named “Women Supporting the Arts,” launched an innovative ecoart apprenticeship program, overseen economic impact studies for Martin County, raised funds to allow for a renovation of the Court House Cultural Center galleries, and created an active strategic planning process with meaningful board member engagement. With her leadership Council many projects have grown and improved, including ArtsFest an annual two-day festival created to celebrate the arts in our community and the Council’s role in fostering collaborative projects.
