Media Arts Panel, Meeting Report and Recommendations

The Media Arts grant panel meeting was held via teleconference on September 16, 2015. Twenty-one (21) eligible applications were reviewed and twenty (20) applications were recommended for funding.

Panel Biographies

Elizabeth Danker

Orange County

  • Assistant Professor, University of Central Florida School of Visual Arts & Design
  • Produces, directs, and edits 16mm films and videos, specializing in experimental non-fiction
  • Named a CINTAS Finalist in Visual Arts in 2014
  • Her work has screened internationally in film festivals and programs including at Anthology Film Archives in New York City; The Wisconsin Film Festival; the Puerto Rico Film Festival; Indie Grits; and Artists’ Television Access in San Francisco
  • Co-founder of Iowa City Experimental Film Festival
  • M.F.A., Film, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

William Hughes

Collier County

  • Owner of Hughes Video Productions located in Naples, Florida
  • Has produced over 50 Television shows and hundreds of Internet presentations on South Florida History and Culture, Nature, and People. 
  • Has recorded over 100 presentations for the Marco Island Historical Society, www.MarcoIslandCommunityTelevision.com
  • Served 4.5 years as Collier County Environmental Advisory Council Chair.

Antonio Mendez Esparza

Leon County

  • Assistant in Film, Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts
  • Director and screenwriter, whose latest film Aquí y Allá premiered at Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012, where it was awarded the Grand Prix
  • Received awards for Best Latino Director from the East Coast by the DGA, Best Short by the L.A. Film Festival, and Best Spanish Short by the national Spanish state TV channel TVE
  • Co-founder of Aquí y Allí Films, a feature film production company with a special interest in fostering the work of young filmmakers
